“Children who live in an atmosphere of love and warmth, and who have around them truly good examples to imitate, are living in their proper element.” — Rudolf Steiner, Founder of Waldorf Education

Welcome to Our Infant Program

At Fremont Community School’s Sycamore Childcare Center, we understand that the first three years of life are the most formative. Our Baby Program was created for working families seeking a nurturing, home-like environment for their infants — a place where warmth, rhythm, and connection guide every part of the day.

When you step into our baby room, you’ll notice the calm atmosphere, soft colors, and soothing voices. Natural materials, gentle movement, and loving attention help babies feel safe and secure as they grow into confident explorers.

Our Philosophy & Approach

We believe babies thrive when surrounded by love, song, nature, and steady rhythms. Our teachers provide care inspired by Waldorf principles, focusing on warmth, sensory experience, and meaningful human connection.

Each educator treats every child as an extension of their own family — meeting each baby’s needs with tenderness, patience, and joy. We view our center as a *“home away from home”* for both children and parents.

Our curriculum blends Waldorf philosophy with a play-based approach, encouraging exploration through music, nature, and sensory experiences. Teachers observe each child’s development and design experiences that meet their interests and abilities.

Low Ratios, Deep Care

While Washington State licensing requires a 4:1 baby-to-teacher ratio, our Sycamore Baby Room typically maintains a 3:1 ratio, ensuring every baby receives the attention and responsiveness they deserve. This small-group model allows teachers to truly understand each child’s rhythms, preferences, and cues.

Daily Rhythm

Our days flow gently, guided by each baby’s natural needs for nourishment, sleep, and exploration.

  • Outdoor Time: Babies spend time outside daily, connecting with nature under our beloved sycamore tree.

  • Music & Movement: Singing, gentle instruments, and rhymes fill our days with rhythm and language.

  • Fresh Meals, Baby-Led Weaning & Feedings: Infants are fed as needed, with feeding times used for bonding and sensory learning.

  • Rest & Care: Naps follow each child’s natural rhythm.

Parent Connection

We value strong communication between home and school. Families receive updates, photos, and notes through the Brightwheel App, so you can stay connected to your baby’s day.

Teachers and administrators are always available to discuss your child’s growth, routines, and transitions.
