Bill Aloe is the father of two, Calvin and Nora. He is a native of Pittsburgh, but came to Seattle in 2008 by way of Massachusetts and Ohio. Bill is an attorney with a varied litigation practice including water law, Native American rights, product liability and business litigation. He hopes to gain a greater understanding of FCS and the Waldorf way while also getting to know more members of the FCS community. He and his wife, Molly Henry, and their kids live in the North Queen Anne neighborhood. He enjoys running, reading and skiing.
Christina Bernard, Treasurer and Finance Committee Chair
Christina Bernard grew up on Long Island, NY. She has a BA in Government from Harvard University and an MPA focused on non-profit management from the Evans School at the University of Washington. She has lived in the Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle for nine years and currently works as the Finance & Grants Manager at the Pacific Hospital Preservation and Development Authority, a public development authority in north Beacon Hill that awards grants to organizations addressing health disparities in the Puget Sound region. Prior to moving to Seattle in 2007, Christina worked on fundraising and development at a non-profit dedicated to electoral reform. Previously, she spent three years at the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. She was introduced to the school through a friend whose children attend(ed).
Dee Dee Curtis, Trustee
Dee Dee Curtis is a community volunteer to the FCS Board. She has lived and worked in the greater Wallingford neighborhood for 35 years. Dee Dee has spent her career in BioPharmaceutical research, including basic research, clinical research and department management, with a special focus on quality assurance, regulatory compliance and training. She is excited to have more time for local service as she shifts to part time consulting. Dee Dee feels lucky to have been surrounded by friends and family members who are inspiring early childhood educators. She looks forward to supporting children and families in her community through her volunteer work with FCS and the Board. Dee Dee has a passion for cooking, Japanese art and design, travel and enjoying the natural world.
Diane Dettling, Trustee
Diane Dettling is the mother of two, Vivian, 3, and Vera, 7 months. She is a former US EPA hazardous material response project manager, and is currently pursuing her MBA with a focus on Operations/Supply Chain Management at the University of Washington. She would love to give back to Vivian's school while gaining some professional experience working with the FCS Board. Diane along with her daughters and husband, Dan, live in the Queen Anne Neighborhood. She enjoys traveling, cooking, and being outdoors.
Katherine Lawson, President and Executive Committee Chair
Originally from Minnesota,Katie Lawsonmoved to Seattle five years ago with her wife, Virginia, and their daughter, Lucy. Lucy enjoyed three magical years at FCS, and Katie and Virginia look forward to having their second child, Sam, begin his time there in a year or so. After ten years working in environmental and outdoor education and as a classroom teacher, Katie earned a Master's in Education from Smith College, and, later, a Master's in Divinity from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. She is an ordained Unitarian Universalist minister who currently works part-time as an eighth grade teacher at Billings Middle School in Greenlake. She enjoys canoeing, cross country skiing, time with her family, and building things.
Rachel Levien, Trustee and Garden Committee Chair
An Ohio native, Rachel Levien graduated from The George Washington University with a double-major in English and Creative Writing. After serving two year-long AmeriCorps tours with Habitat for Humanity, she settled in Seattle and worked for six years at a construction-related non-profit. She has volunteered extensively with the Seattle P-Patch program and Seattle Tilth’s Children’s Garden. She lives in “East” Ballard with her husband, Ben, and daughters, Marguerite and Imogen.
Stephanie Buetow-Nelson, Trustee
Stephanie Buetow-Nelson is the mother of Zellah (3 2/3rds). Stephanie has a Bachelors degree from the University of Washington in Political Science and Dance. After college, Stephanie was a full time dance teacher and then changed her professional focus. She currently does a wide variety of administrative duties for a small construction company in Sodo. Her daughter, Zellah is thriving at FCS and Stephanie is very excited to have a more in depth involvement with FCS. This ability to give back to the community is what makes Stephanie’s and Zellah’s experience so wonderful. Stephanie, her husband Bryan, and Zellah live in the Eastlake neighborhood and enjoy taking advantage of all of the activities near them: zoo, science center, aquarium, parks, rec centers, and of course dance classes for Zellah and Stephanie.
